Talent & Sector Development & Training
BFI Film Academy / British Film Institute; Department for Education & National Lottery
Train and inspire the next generation of UK filmmakers and production crew.
BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for ambitious young people, to get to know more about film and how to make a career in the screen industries.
As BFI Network Partners we delivered 10 BFI Film Academy courses over 5 consecutive years between 2018 and 2023.
We were also awarded funding to deliver a brand new BFI Film Club for 12-15 yr olds. The pilot programme formed an intrinsic part of the UK wide strategy to ensure equality of opportunity for young people to learn about and begin a fledgling career in the film industry.
We worked with over 200 young people and over 100 industry colleagues: professional organisations, technology and equipment partners and sponsors, facilities, and countless youth organisations. Additionally, we delivered countless introductory and careers sessions to schools and colleges alongside our delivery.
Our student films have won awards and many of our young filmmakers have gone on to further education and traineeships including Lucas Film and Disney. Many have gone on to create successful careers in the industry.
‘Taking part helped me to build my network, learn new skills and grow in confidence….. and was also a lot of fun! The support from the incredible mentors and their belief in me, really fuelled my ambition and made me realise that my goal of a career in the film/television industry was 100% possible (and it is!)’
